experiencing nature in its raw form

β€œFrom the moment of arrival, the magic of each moment began. Sunrises to start the day with coffee in hand, safari drives with the light chill of the morning air and sudden appearances of the animals got my full undivided attention each and every day. And sunsets out in the jeep with a preferred libation, brought reflection of the day, of ones life.

The realization of where you were and how enormously blessed one was to experience nature in its raw form. And with people there to ensure your safety and comfort. I was struck with how happy and heartfelt everyone was at each particular accommodation and not limited even remotely by country, nor job description. In the end, I felt I knew East Africa and in a most special, heartfelt way.”

Lemala was absolutely joyous. What a fun bunch too! They had me entirely pegged, tuned right into what I loved and treated me like a king. Sunrises, sunsets. Great drives. Barack was an excellent guide. Spent Xmas Eve and morning with the staff.  Felt so honored to be able to spend the time with them all.

Was there a particular camp or lodge that was the highlight of your trip and why?

Virunga Lodge had a special magic to it, though all accommodations were unique and a classic example of their particular location.

Tell us about any specific individuals (guides, camp staff, etc.) who made your safari extra special.

I hesitate to name specific people as everyone was excellent, though I can say that Wright, manager at Lemala Nanyukie, ran a tight ship and had an extra tight rapport with his emplyees. Great leadership as well as managerial skills. Personable approach in greeting guests and understanding their wishes. Priorities.

Any favorite moments?

The Gorillas in Rwanda, Sunrises and sunsets in the Serengeti... The watering hole at Ol Donyo at sunset...thunderstorms with light beaming through the black clouds in Ngorongoro crater...Fires at night looking out at the Volcanoes at Virunga Lodge and hiking for the gorillas. The heartfelt connections at Mara Plains.
