Etosha

Lying in northern Namibia, Etosha is a vast protected wilderness centered around the immense Etosha Pan, a shimmering expanse of salt and clay that stretches toward the horizon. Often described as Namibia’s “Great White Place.” the pan is a striking backdrop for any safari adventures. Wildlife silhouettes stand out against the open plains, while the vast sense of space makes every encounter feel even more memorable. Etosha is home to 114 mammal species and more than 400 bird species.

Game viewing in Etosha revolves almost exclusively around waterholes. Elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, springbok, and oryx gather around these natural springs and borehole-fed water sources while predators are lurking close by. Sitting quietly and observing the interactions and dynamics unfold around these waterholes is one of the region’s greatest enjoyments.

Etosha is also the premier destination in Namibia for rhino encounters. The park protects both black and white rhino. Beyond its boundaries, the wider Etosha region offers classic game drives through ever-changing landscapes. Neighboring Ongava Private Game Reserve offers private guiding, wildlife hides, and the exclusive opportunity to track rhinos on foot under the instruction of expert guides. This area is a former farmland transformed into a protected wilderness where black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, and many other species now thrive

Etosha combines well with the dramatic landscapes of Sossusvlei and the remote wilderness of Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast. While Namibia is celebrated for it’s remarkable landscapes, Etosha provides the essential wildlife experiences. This regions serves as either the perfect finale or centerpiece to any Namibia itinerary.
