Hwange
Hwange National Park spans roughly 14,650 sq kilometers in western Zimbabwe. This region is one of Africa’s largest natural sanctuaries. The terrain transitions from the semi-arid scrub and deep sands of the northern Kalahari basin into sweeping open grasslands, ancient mopane woodlands, and towering Zambezi teaks forests. Because of the diverse habitats, hundreds of mammal and birds species are able able to survive in this area.
With over 45,000 individual elephants, Hwange is globally renowned for its elephant population. These giants along with other creatures such as buffalo, antelope species, and predators gather around vital waterholes during the dry winter months, creating a captivating wildlife visual spectacle.
