African Rock

Founded by Otti and Zelda Meijer, African Rock Hotel and Spa was designed to be both spacious and functional, with a natural color palette complemented by Zelda’s original artwork and Otti’s custom furniture designs. After selling their eco-safari company, Africa Unlimited Safaris, in 2006, the couple returned to tourism to create a luxurious yet relaxed retreat that reflects their love for the bush and hospitality.

Once their family home and safari office, the property’s ideal location in a tranquil Kempton Park suburb near OR Tambo International Airport made it perfect for transformation into the area’s first five-star boutique hotel. Its contemporary architecture—crafted by two design firms and local artisans—blends exclusivity with comfort, while sustainability is prioritized through local sourcing, recycling, and community involvement.

African Rock Hotel and Spa caters to both leisure and business travelers, offering high-end amenities, rejuvenating wellness treatments, and fine dining at its on-site restaurant, the Blue Hippo.
