What’s the weather? The best time to go?
Generally speaking, July through September are considered Peak season in most prime safari destinations with High season extending into May/June and October. These are usually the drier months when animals congregate around water sources and the bush is sparse, but don’t let that deter you from considering safaris at other times of year! Seasonality has become much less predictable while crowds and rates have only increased. From our perspective, there are wonderful safari experiences available year-round, and much more depends on your travel style and preferences, your particular interests and what you want to experience.
Our focus is finding the best option for each traveler, and we love traveling outside of Peak season. November through May can be a fantastic time for a safari, especially for birders. This is also when newborn wildlife is most abundant. The “Green” season brings beautifully lush landscapes, and thriving wildlife; a refreshing contrast to the pressures of the drier months. Lodges and camps are often less crowded as well, creating a more intimate, relaxed safari experience. These months can also offer excellent value, with rates that are typically 20-40% lower than during Peak season while delivering unique and impressive safari experiences.

But How Do I Pack?
When it comes to packing, it’s always wise to think in layers. Morning game drives often begin cool, regardless of the time of year, before warming up through the day and then cooling again by late afternoon. A lightweight jacket, breathable fabrics, and comfortable neutral-colored clothing are all recommended to help you stay comfortable as temperatures change. The camps and vehicles are all well-equipped. No matter when you travel, the teams on the ground will take excellent care of you, keep you comfortable and make the most of your safari.
