Wide Open Spaces and Wildlife Surprises
A Next Adventure Traveler’s Testimonial
“I might have some goals in mind, e.g., seeing a rhino in front of Mount Kenya at sunrise or an animal posing in front of Nairobi’s skyline or the chance to copy some other photo I’ve seen in a magazine, but such goals don’t serve me as much as what I’ve seen simply by being present and observing.”
One of my most memorable sightings was that of rhinos getting it on in Nairobi National Park. My guide there didn’t seem to know a lot about what was happening, but at Lewa Plains I found one that helped me understand what we had experienced. I had a great hike at Emakoko one day that was the best in helping me to acclimatize. I also loved the Emakoko tram that took guests up and down if their lodging was up on the hill. The food was great.
At Loisaba, our best sighting was when we were able to follow a leopard female as she went out hunting. During that time I realized how many and yet how few vehicles are on that property. I did like the lack of traffic at both Loisaba and Lewa. The accommodations were very nice, and I was lucky enough to be in a shared vehicle with others that sat quietly and were still when we were at sightings, and we all got along well and ended up sharing several meals together. The food was good but a bit fancy for me here. The view from my room was stunning.
Lewa was probably my favorite lodge, and my guide there was the best. As you recommended, I was able to do the outing where they told us about the Conservancy and all they are doing, and I was most impressed with that and their many successes. There’s such a variety of wildlife there!
Planning a safari with Next Adventure couldn’t be easier when I’m planning it alone. Of course we started planning it with a friend who had different ideas about what she wanted to see and that part was a bit more challenging for me. It did not seem challenging at all for Next Adventure, and for that I was and am very grateful. And, once my friend decided not to come, again, it couldn’t have been easier. What I love about the team at Next Adventure is how well they listen and your knowledge of the offerings and your ability to match me to them. In turn they anticipated my questions and answered all thoroughly.
Why I love going on safari includes that I love being driven around, being outdoors, not being in a rush (well, unless we get word of a really special sighting) and seeing whatever presents itself. I do prefer those safaris that are “off the beaten path” more than those with lots of vehicular traffic. I might have some goals in mind, e.g., seeing a rhino in front of Mount Kenya at sunrise or an animal posing in front of Nairobi’s skyline or the chance to copy some other photo I’ve seen in a magazine, but such goals don’t serve me as much as what I’ve seen simply by being present and observing. I have also told friends that going on safari can be a bit like playing the lottery. I enjoy the landscapes and the wide open spaces as much as I love being surprised with wildlife sightings. What I also love is being pampered and well fed, and in all my safari trips, I can’t recall Next Adventure and/or its partners ever having missed in this regard.
